The topic of our July round-table workshop (Thursday July 27, 2023 @ 12:00 PM ET USA) was a discussion of back to basics with emphasis on time-domain analysis of NMR data. There is a renewed interest in recent years in time-domain modeling techniques – such as CRAFT (IVAN round table discussion, April, 2021) and SAND (IVAN presentation, August 2022). The consensus definitions of basic terms such as signal to noise, resolution and lineshape, and their influence in the practice of NMR has been primarily based on the collective wisdom from spectral (frequency domain) analysis and its requirements. Such consensus and definitions may not necessarily be the same for time-domain analysis. This discussion will revisit these basics from time-domain analysis point of view and present some practical examples and opportunities.
